
Thomas Jeffrey Hanks (born July 9th 1956) is an American actor and film director. Popular for his dramatic and comedic performances, he is considered to be one of the most popular and well-known film actors worldwide and is widely regarded as an American iconic cultural figure. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was a Concord, California native to Janet Marylyn Hanks, a hospital worker and Amos Mefford Hanks an itinerant cook. His mother was named "Fraga" and his father was predominantly English. Tom was raised in what he describes as"a "fractured" family. He had no experience acting in college, and credits his inability get a role in a college production with starting his career. He was a part of the auditions in the downtown area of Cleveland for a community theater production. After that it was announced that he would be invited to Cleveland by the director. This was the point where his acting career started.
